Samuel Hartwell Tarver, Jr.
January 30, 1937 - December 26, 2012
PEMBROKE, GA - Samuel Hartwell Tarver, Jr., 75, died Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Mr. Tarver was born in Savannah, GA on January 30, 1937, the son of the late Samuel Hartwell Tarver and Thelma Jane Caine Tarver. He attended Savannah High School. Following his tenure at Savannah High School he began working for Tom's Foods and then Lance, Inc. Ultimately, he retired as General Manager of Morris Distributing. He was a longtime member of Olive Branch Baptist Church.
Mr. Tarver is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Dessie Tarver; children, Samuel H. "Art" Tarver, III and wife Cathy of Pembroke, Leon Talmadge Tarver of Pembroke, Dessie "Dee" Hudson and husband Donald of Pembroke, Daniel Rule Tarver of Pembroke and Rochelle J. "Shelley" Stokes and husband Joseph of Brooklet, GA; grandchildren, Lucy Jones, Benjamin B. DeLoach, Skyler Hudson, Clifton Hudson, Aaron Tarver, Samuel Tarver, Joshua Tarver, Dalton Stokes, and Talon Stokes and great-granddaughter, Brooke Jones.
The family will be receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Sunday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with burial following at Bonaventure Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
